After nearly 15 years, I finally decided to do a complete re-write of the game to better support modern hardware. I can not give you a release date yet, but probably somewhere in 2015.

Is it possible to maybe give us a few teaser screenshots? And a possible release date?

This is great! I just checked the site today and saw a banner with the good news, it got me so excited! I have played this game till death and still love it. Started playing in late 2002/ early 2003 and was immediately hooked. It is one of the better, if not the best boulder dash clones out there.
Do you also plan on releasing it on Steam or do promotion for this new version? Because despite it is a great game, the playerbase is pretty dead and I'm feeling that I'm practically the only person left still playing this game.

To the Administrator of this Forum: Since this forum has a much better user-inferface and the ability to post pictures as well, I would like to close down the current "official" sapphire yours forum and use this here for the future. I would also set the link from the SY homepage to point right here. All this of course only on your permission.
Another cool thing would be to use this fourm to communicate about the new version of the game: To provide some additional teasers or pre-releases and maybe find persons willing to contribute.
Things that are still needed: - Levels: I have changed much of the logic and adopted most of the old levels from the game package, but user levels will no longer be compatible - so there is additional work necessary - Graphics: Charilaos is doing great work here, but his time is also quite limited - Music: While I try to create a conversion of the original MIDI-files to MP3 (or to persuade the original composer to create totaly new versions), this still leaves me two songs short. Probably you could create a forum category "Version 4 Development" for this purpose?
best regards, Reinhard

If there is any help needed with levels, I can create any level from Tutorial to M.A.D. difficulty. My preference goes to making a couple of Difficult, Hard or M.A.D. levels but if you need levels of other difficulty I'll still gladly design them. I'm also curious to experiment with the new logic and want to make levels that take full advantage of those logic changes.

Let me know if the music composer has any kind of info, like a Facebook, Soundcloud or Youtube page, because this person made the soundtrack that made my childhood great.

Awesome news! I just hope this new version retains at least most of the original gameplay mechanics and even more importantly it's precise controls. Can't wait to hear any news about how the new version is progressing.

Hi Folks! As I have not much time now to invest into further game development, I have decided to release the current state of the game to the public for free. It is quite playable on windows and android and I hope I did a good job in supporting touch input. I you get it to run on a Mac, please let me know, because I have no Mac to test this myself. You can download the current (and probably any future version) from github.com/c0pperdragon/sapphireyours/releasesInstallation on desktop machines requires to have a java runtime installed (http://www.java.com). Just unpack the .zip and click the contained sapphireyours.jar. Installation of the .apk on android is more tricky and requires to put the mobile device to developer mode in order to be able to install packages from other sources than the playstore. How to do this is probably device dependent. Maybe a google search will help you on this. Have much fun, Reinhard

Thanks

I was able to start playing it last night (my current computer doesn't have the right graphics hardware, but I just finished updating my other laptop to Win 10). I'm having fun with it, and I like the addition of Undo mode, citrines, and the other new elements. Plus, now I have an excuse to spend a few hours beating all the levels again. I'm especially interested in the new converter logic, and I'm impressed that a level like "Polymorphing" survived even with all the crazy converter stuff happening in that level. Looking forward to trying out the level creator soon. Hi Really excited about this. I have windows 10 on my laptop and downloaded java. Does this have a password because after unzipping it I needed one? Or am I doing something wrong. Thanks There isn't a password. Make sure you download the "dist" file and not the source code. I have a vague memory of trying to open one of the downloads the other day and getting prompted for a password, so you might have opened the wrong thing. What you need to do is unzip the file dist.zip and then open sapphireyours.jar with Java (should be "javaw.exe" in C:\Program Files\Java\...\bin if you're prompted to choose a program -- don't unzip the jar file).

Thanks again. I still cannot get this to work. Tried on another computer with windows 10 and also no good. I get sapphireyours executable jar file When I click this the logo comes up and nothing else happens. I cannot work out what to do. If someone can explain what to do in terms I (not real good apparently with programs) can do. Sorry to be a pain. I am in Australia if this makes a difference.
Thanks again for your trouble Margy

Okay so the pre-release is pretty good but obviously not finished. You said you won't have time to work on it much. Does this mean you won't work on it anymore? I'm fine with working on it myself to continue the development if you left the source code and it's free right?

Hi!
I was asking about this question as well at Reinhard (via his e-mail), however I did not get any answer since (6th Jan.). He did say he publishes the game for free, however he did not say, that he finishes working on it. Also you have to be careful, since there are copyright notice on the homepage of Sapphire yours, where it states, that you are not allowed to use the artwork from the game. (Don't know if it only means the artwork bundled with the executable, or as well the resources on GitHub) The code on GitHub is published without license, so you should examine the GitHub terms of use, before any further developement, so you can avoid legal trouble. Viewing the code on GitHub, I noticed, that some of the classes are missing, Reinhard did not publish those (The classes in grafl.sy.logic package). For these classes, you have to look a little bit deeper.

The new version still has a latency issue, just like the previous version. I press an arrow key and it takes noticeably longer for the miner to move. Anyone else had or have had this problem on either version? Anyway i can fix it?

Hi Guys! It's been a while since Reinhard decided to remake the game, and since it's newest version was released. As he mentioned, he has no more time for working on the game, and he made available the game's current version free for download. As I really liked this game back in the old days when I was quite young, I was sad to see this game being abandoned. Being a computer programmer myself, I decided to rewrite the game from scratch in my free time, and make it available for you. I spent my past half year writing it, and quite successfully got all the game logic right from the version 3.1. I'm planning to make the game publicly available around the end of May (probably sooner, around May 25th), and you will be able to download it for free to the following operating systems: Android (via Google Play) iOS (via AppStore) Windows 10 (via Windows 10 Store, 1 more reason to upgrade ) The game is planned to support touch screen, but it can still handle keyboard input as previously. Features that are available: Play levels Save successfully completed demos (Settings adjustments, sound, music) Playback demos (Speed 0.5x, 1x, 5x, pause, backward not supported yet) Features that are missing: Level editor (given the interest, it is planned to come soon) VCR step recording VCR backward playback Two player levels Game suspending ... (I'm sure there are more, they just don't come to my mind at the moment) The game will contain all the levels from the original and expansion version of 3.1, and all the community levels I could find. The game logic was modified in the sligthest way (In the ways they were considered bugs, or just illogical design), so some levels won't be playable (great example for this is Ghost Train). Only levels that are affected by this are levels with acid or robots. All the levels included in the new version will contain a successfully completed Demo. I added some screenshots from the current version, and I value all the incoming feedback. (These are beta screenshots, they could be modified until the release) If you are in any way author of the original game content, and will refuse to make it available to the public, please contact me here, or via private message in the forum, and I can delete your concering content. Expect more soon (Image inserting has some problems, so here is the URL: imgur.com/a/3Zuh6 )
